T-Lex & the Dinosaurs style

Our idea to keep music Human, while using tech tools

T-Lex is a keyboardist, vocalist, and songwriter leading The Dinosaurs—a band of seasoned, mostly over-40 musicians (true industry “dinosaurs” with decades of experience under their belts).

Frustrated with the typical modern production style—heavy layering, endless overdubs, special effects, and endless loops of the same few chords resulting in a polished but often soulless, generic sound—T-Lex has taken control of his own recording process. His goal? To recapture the organic, focused feel of classic albums recorded on 16- and 24-track analogue tape, while still benefiting from the clarity, headroom, and reliability of today’s high-end digital equipment.

The result is music that’s intentionally lean and intentional. Almost every TLD track (except those featuring a horn section) is deliberately arranged so it can be faithfully reproduced live by a 6-piece band. At any given moment, you’ll rarely hear more than:

  • 2 guitars
  • 2 keyboards
  • bass
  • drums

Additional percussion (tambourine, shakers, etc.) is kept minimal and is usually handled on the fly by a guitarist or keyboardist—no need for extra players.

While some might view this as a self-imposed limitation, T-Lex sees it as a deliberate strength: it eliminates the temptation of overproduction, excessive layering, and studio trickery that plagues so much contemporary music. The focus stays on the song, the performance, and the raw musical chemistry—qualities that translate directly from studio to stage.
